Meetings with Industry
During the week of the career fair, BMES hosted two meetings with industrial partners Boston Scientific and Beckman Coulter. Boston Scientific brought in a prototype of their Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator and explained some of the details of their product line. In addition, they described what it requires to work at Boston Scientific and what their intern program is like. Beckman Coulter’s representative was very informative—it was the first time a representative from Beckman Coulter had came to Michigan Tech recruiting. Beckman Coulter’s product line focuses on diagnostic equipment for hospitals. One unique point about Beckman Coulter is their Innovation Fellowship Program, where first year employees travel to three different locations nationwide, working on different projects to establish placement in the most appropriate position and location. At the end of the first year, an employee may choose where they would like to be placed. Overall, both sessions helped BMES members establish industrial connections and learn about biomedical companies. We are looking forward to doing more of these events in the future!
